Wanna boost your CV/Resume? Coursera to the rescue!

Hi hi everyone, how's life? Haha been a while since my last post, I am sorry for procrastinating to post on this blog. I have been so caught up in my dramatic life lol.

Anyway, on this occasion, I would like to share my personal experience which I hope can be a little help to anyone in need regarding the CV/resume. I will not tell you how to build a stellar CV/resume, but I think adding some relevant courses can make your CV/resume look even more promising. For anyone who ever felt like "I got nothing, I was worthless, I had nothing to write on my CV/resume," please gather and let's have a toss because I did, too. I found it hard and felt helpless about my CV until I remember about the online courses. I thought I could add them to my CV/resume, and yes I did it. So, where did I get the online course? Yes, Coursera is one of the answers! (There are many other platforms such as EDX and such, but for this occasion, let's just dig for Coursera, ok?)

For those who haven't familiar with Coursera, here it is.

I have known Coursera since 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, and I kept looking for something to keep me sane. If you haven't had the account, go register. It is super easy; just follow the instruction.

Well, on Coursera, there are many types of courses. There are those that are free and you can issue the certificate and many others where you need to pay to issue the certificate, including those online degree courses. The courses are usually offered by many well-known universities. Stanford University? Duke University? Columbia University? Yonsei University? You name it. And, no worries, even though some courses are free, it is trusted and has credentials you can even add to your LinkedIn. Sounds great, huh?

If you have particular interested topics, you can just find and choose them. It is as simple as that.

This is an example of a free course. You can just click Enroll for Free.

As I mentioned, you can issue the certificate (although it doesn't apply to all the free courses; the certificate can be issued only for particular courses). But, what if you want to learn a course that is not free and you need to pay but cannot afford it? Well, now Coursera provides financial aid and you can apply. Actually, I just knew it not too long ago and I decided to try. And I made it.

You just need to find the course you want to apply to, click Financial Aid Available, and then follow the instructions by filling out the form.

After filling out the form and sending it, you just need to wait for the answer. It usually takes about a week to hear the decision on whether your financial aid request is granted. Finally, you're ready to take the course.

In terms of the course, it usually takes a month to finish it. There are weekly materials and a quiz that you need to do in time. I hope you not only apply for the sake of the certificate but also the knowledge because it does require dedicated time and concentration. There will be required reading every week and you need to submit your take-away note and grade your peers' assignments as well. So, you cannot just skip the videos because, most likely, you'll be confused if you miss the explanation.

Moreover, if you get access to the course for free, please do not take it for granted.
One course costs 49 USD. So it is not that cheap, it is relatively pricey for some people, including me.

Do it diligently and give your time. For me personally, I usually do the course during the weekend so it won't disturb my work.

Once you finish your course

Certificate as a bonus of a free course

After completing your course, you can add them to your CV/resume and/or even LinkedIn.

So yeah, that's that. I wish I didn't miss a thing to share with you. I hope it could be a little help for y'all. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to hit me up.

XO
