CANTRANG MADE A MESS WITH ME!
Hello guys, so today I'll just tell ya a story about how annoying this morning on my way to office, and if it's possible, I am going to give it a try to talk about "cantrang". I'll just use bilingual instead, Bahasa (in order to make it easier to understand) and English (to keep improving my skill in writing).
This morning, I woke up earlier than ever since I had to be fasting today, I woke up around 4am and didn't sleep for more after prayed Subuh. I hurriedly took a bath soon after doing my daily business then went to the bus shelter around 6.20 am. It was actually earlier than I usually go, I usually go to office around 6.30 am. Yet, since last week the buses were so rare, I barely caught the crowded one. After two shelters passed, I got a seat to sit down. Alhamdulillaah... When we got around Salemba, my friend who was with me told me to get off the bus (we got on PGC-Harmoni bus, intended to get off at Juanda shelter). I asked her why, then she replied that a friend of us tweet "don't get on PGC-Harmoni bus, there's a demonstration. Remembering that the time won't stop, the clock at my office won't wait for us, we finally got off at Kramat Sentiong shelter bus. We tried to catch either PGC-Ancol bus or Kampung Melayu-Ancol bus, yet unfortunately we got none. There was no bus for this route. Up till 7.18 am, we got none, so we ended up looking for taxi to take us to our office. While on our way, we tried to guess what kinda demonstration which is held today that caused such an unbearable traffic jam on weekday, on peak hour, like what the heck maaaaaaaaan. Sorry. I mean, those who demonstrate, tried to deliver their thoughts as they deserve it, and the regulation allows it as well. However, didn't they think that what they did on this earlier morning caused so much trouble for others? I was late few minutes, so were my friends. My friends even needed to walk hundreds meter just because the terrible traffic jam, but unfortunately they were still late in the end. I mean, sure you can do anything you want, you can get what you deserve as well, but please, be considerate. BE CONSIDERATE.
After browsing on the internet, we found that it was a cantrang demonstartion, held by the fisheries. Guess, what was my first comment? Yup, I said "basi ah, hari gini masih aja demo, udah lama kali issuenya. Lagian nelayan mana sih yang demo? Pasukan nasi bungkus, kali ah. Gatau kali sebenernya mereka demo apaan". Yes, I was that annoyed. So fed up of the drama. Soooooo done, so done.
Let's try to discuss it. I mean, about cantrang, the hottest issue of the day. Before going further, DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS "CANTRANG"? Cantrang is kinda super wide net with small holes (able to touch seabed and catch even baby fish and everything). Here I'll just post explanation of the Ministry of Marine and Fisheries regarding to "cantrang". I'll also add up some references related from another sources.
Based on the first picture, we can see that cantrang is not environment friendly. It carries everything from the bottom of the sea, whether it's valuable or not, whether it's already mature enough to catch, whether it's fish or coral where the fish and another creatures live in. Also, from the percentage data shown, it's clear to see that thy bycatch is greater than the intended catch, I mean, why, why do they keep doing that? Why don't they try to focus on the target, why? I couldn't agree more for the regulation to prohibit the use of cantrang. I guess it's the right decision made by the government.
From the second picture, we can see that the user of cantrang are dominated by the big ship. It's almost impossible if small ship innovates the cantrang till hundreds kilometer wide, I mean, it doesn't make sense. If those who demonstrate said that the poor people are the victims of the prohibition of cantrang use, then can you give me a thorough explanation? I tried to think "if I were them (those who demonstrate), if I put my feet on their shoes", but I could only imagine that only big ship, with modern and advance machine can do the activity with cantrang. And, to make it possible, it sure needs money, doesn't it? I am pretty sure, if it's the real poor people who use cantrang, they will think twice to just buy the fuel to spread the cantrang. Don't you think so? So I come with one question, WHO ARE THEY WHO DEMONSTRATED THIS MORNING AND MADE AN AWFUL START OF MY DAY? I ain't sure they are fisheries, to be honest.
Furthermore, if the cantrang carries everything in hundreds Ha wide, it's so possible to carry the small fish as well, which is not so pricey to sell. I mean, they'll just be waste eventhough they can carry plenty fish and everything at once. Don't they think about their future? If the small fishes are all carried, what will they catch next week? Next month? Next year? They may carry nothing, at all, since the coral and everything are already damaged. DEAR MISTER, HOW WILL YOU EARN MONEY FOR LIVING, FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY TOMORROW? Get another job? Good luck then.
If the demonstrators said the regulation is ruled lately by the current minister, Mrs.Susi Pudjiastuti, omg WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? It's already socialized since 2009, which means this year already 9 years, since the period of previous president. The government has socialized it through mass media, even through the dialog with the Minister Susi Pudjiastuti herself. I guess, the reason behind the issue sounds louder these days is there are some actors who feel disturbed by the regulation. I am positive, they're not poor people. It can be fraudulent company or whoever behind this morning demonstration, sure there must be various purposes. But sorry to say, IT'S SO YESTERDAY. SO OLD FASHIONED.
If we pay attention to the government intention, we can see that the government already provides the solution for the fisheries to use alternative tools instead of cantrang to avail, depends on the ship they have. You can just read on the picture above. So, the main solution for us for the very first time is STAY POSITIVE.
And the last picture, shows us kinda solution for the fisheries, instead of using cantrang, better to use the suggested tool. The government must have reason that they don't allow the fisheries to use cantrang, yet another environment-friendly tools. Using the environment-friendly tools to catch fish means we care of the next generation life and the nature. I can't give the explanation for each tool since I don't master it, but the fisheries must have known it better. I am sure. Let's try to listen more, to learn more, to understand more, and last but not least, try to be considerate.
Hmm, that's all my story for today. Hope you guys can spread the information, the right information to others. Thank you and have a good day.
Xx.
