Earth Hour
Hi
guys, are you doing good today?? I hope you’re always be the best version of
you. As we know, there are lots of ways in energy conservation, but today, before it’s going too late (literally, late to post), I am gonna
share one of the biggest campaign related to energy conservation which
everybody knows and everybody is able to do, that’s so called Earth Hour. Most of this post, I got
the source from earthhour.org , you can
check it by yourself as you’re pleased.
I am
sure the first thing appears in our heads every time we heard to the word Earth
Hour must be that annual event to turn off all the electricity (lamp
especially) on a special date, an-hour-long, once a year. Is that true? The
answer is, you’re almost there, it’s right, but not fully right. You know, Earth
hour is neither an action nor event, yet, it’s a movement to save our
world, to make a better world for now and future, especially to minimise the
risk of climate change.
The
very first Earth Hour was held in Sidney, Australia in 2007 with its
participants around 2,2 million people. It became such a massive issue around
the world that the number of participants kept rising from year to year. For the
last Earth
hour in 2017, it was held on March 25, 2017 and already followed in 187
countries and territories. Millions of individuals did it sincerely, even more
than 3000 landmarks, such as Eiffel Tower, Big Ben and so on, switched off its lights to participate. It was mostly held
on March, do you know why? Yes you’re right. Because, in March, most of the
countries and territories are in its season transition, so when the movement
done, it doesn’t need air conditioner or heater. Simply, it’s the most
conducive time that most country can join. And you know, Indonesia, already
joined this movement. Glad to know (yeah w e knew already eheheheh).
What’s
actually the purpose of the movement so called Earth Hour? According to
the earthhour.wwf.or.id this movement aims to encourage individuals,
communities, businessmen and governments which are correlated to each other to
take part in making a better world, which is sustainable (as I ever told you before, sustainable means the energy stays there to be enjoyed by the next generation). It started by a small
step, as easy as switch the lamp and electronic stuffs off to conserve the
energy and hopefully it can be a life style. This movement doesn’t mean the electricity
is turned off by the institution (PLN, for example, if it’s in Indonesia), but
people are willing to do it by themselves. Let’s have a look on Earth
Hour in Indonesia. The Earth Hour in Indonesia was focused
to be held in Java and Bali island, since these two islands dominated the
electric consumption, which is 78 percent of electricity consumption was in
Java-Bali.
As
its name, Earth Hour only takes
an-hour-long, but the movement should not stop there. The reason why it’s only
held in one hour, just because it’s such a campaign that people in some areas
do it together. But, the fact is, people have to conserve energy every time,
every where, regardless of the event or everything else. People don’t need to
wait for the certain date to conserve the energy, but it has to be done all the
time. Let me illustrate the Earth Hour so that we can understand
it much better.
The condition is...
The condition is...
IF THE
EARTH HOUR DONE BY 10 PERCENT OF JAKARTANS...it will bring impacts
- Conserving 300 MW (enough to make the power plant rest)
- Equals to give light in 900 villages
- Reduce the electricity cost up too 200 million rupiah
- Reduce the emission of CO2 around 267 tons
- Equals to emission absorption done by 267 trees (its age around 20 years old)
- Equals to the availability of oxygen for 534 persons
Sounds interesting and captivating, right? I
think it’s enough to illustrate, that we can conclude by now, if the movement
done in one hour only can bring such a massive impact, we can imagine if it’s done
longer than an hour and done by everyone on earth, surely it will be so
beneficial for our world, especially in energy conservation.
I
guess that’s all for today, let’s do energy conservation every time and
every where. Let’s try not to be a selfish one, let’s be considerate for the
next generation, and let’s take part in making better world. Because we are the
hope of future.
For the next post, I'll try to discuss another issues, but still, about energy conservation or conserving energy or conservative energy. So guys, please stay updated by visiting my blog daily :)))) Leave some comments, also. Thanks in advance. Aaa, almost forgotten, sorry for not being able make it in two languages, once I get the time, I am gonna make it, insyaAllah.
